Course Description

Motion graphics is an exciting, vibrant and fast-growing industry that needs versatile and creative designers fluent in the latest technologies and tools.

The focus of the course is to develop your skill in communicating concepts and information through motion and within a short time frame.

Course Content

Year 1

You will build fundamental skills in conceptual thinking, storytelling, graphic design, branding, communication and visualisation. There is an emphasis on understanding the industry and exploring the broad role of the motion graphic designer. We encourage you to start thinking about your contextual studies research throughout this year.

Year 2

All the skills attained in your first year will be brought together in your second year in longer projects that reflect the sort of real-life work motion graphic designers might typically do.

These projects will include:

  • film and television title sequences
  • information graphics
  • advertising and promotional films
  • music video and branding.

You will also get the opportunity to collaborate with students from other courses, choose elective units that reflect your personal interests, engage with industry professionals and get opportunities to work on live briefs and take up internships.

Year 3

Your final year is focussed on creating a personal portfolio of work that reflects your skills and aspirations as a motion graphics designer.

You will:

  • be required to do one competition or live brief but otherwise all briefs can be self initiated
  • receive portfolio reviews from industry professionals
  • have on-going mentoring and technical advice
  • attend specialist workshops.

 

Entry Requirements

Students will normally be expected to possess five GCSEs (grade C/level 4 or above) or equivalent (including English) and also to hold at least one of the below or equivalent UK or international qualifications.

Qualifications accepted:

  • 2 A levels, grade C or above
  • 4 AS levels, grade C or above
  • 2 vocational A levels, grade C or above
  • Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma
  • Advanced Diploma, grade C or above
  • International Baccalaureate, 28 points or above

Assessment Methods

You will be continually assessed through presentation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through submission of a dissertation, portfolio of work and showreel.
