University of Strathclyde

Masters Degree , Creative Writing

Course Description

The main element of the MRes is a dissertation in the region of 30,000 words, which includes a critical reflection on the creative process of around 5,000 words. The ratio of critical reflection to the rest of the text will depend on your project and can be negotiated with your supervisor. You will work on this project with your supervisor throughout the degree and meet together around once a month. The precise timetable of meetings will depend on the nature of your project and can be negotiated. The other part of the course is a research methods class taken by all postgraduate students in the English Studies department. This teaches skills useful for all advanced students, including creative writers, such as how to search for information, make presentations and apply for grants.
