Course Description

The subject area of Electronics is of key strategic significance to modern advanced economies. Advances in analogue and digital electronics have helped form information based industries and societies that continue to evolve at a breakneck pace. The successful development of Electronics in industry and wider society is key to achieving a competitive edge in today's global economy. This degree will provide students with underpinning knowledge in the broad range of fields necessary for the study of modern electronics, practical skills in the form of design, simulation and construction of electronic systems in the laboratory, training in research methods and a project in an area of advanced electronics. The major Electronics project that forms a significant part of the MSc programme will be supervised primarily by academic staff from the Institute of Micro and Nano Systems in the School of Engineering, including academics based at the Scottish Microelectronics Centre. This degree also offers a choice between Modern Economic Issues in Industry, and Technology and Innovation Management, in order to appeal to students who wish to develop careers related to the economics and management aspects of Electronics in industry.
